Locorotondo

Locorotondo is an Italian town of 14,108 inhabitants in the province of Bari, in Puglia. It is a farming and commercial town and belongs to the association called "I borghi più belli d'Italia" (the most beautiful towns in Italy).

Monuments and places of interest

• The town comprises a group of small white houses placed in concentric circles, hence the origin of the town’s name.
• Main Church of San Giorgio Martire dating from the 18th century (it was built between 1790 and 1825). Stone bas-reliefs from the 14th century can be found inside.
• Villa Basile - Caramia
• Palazzo DeBernardis
• Historic centre with typical 'cummerse' (typical sloping drystone roofs of the houses)
• The trullo (typical rural dwelling of the Itrian Valley). The Trullo di Marziolla, the oldest trullo in Puglia (1509) is worth a visit.
• Church of Madonna della Greca the first documented reference to which dates back to 1520 even if it would seem to have older origins.

The wine-growing and wine-producing economy has taken a real step backwards in recent years due to the constant uprooting of vines throughout the area.
