La Valle d'Itria is a portion of land in central Puglia that straddles the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto.
The area coincides with the southern part of the Murge plateau. The valley’s most characteristic feature are the trulli houses, typical conical-shaped stone dwellings.
The Itrian Valley coincides with the southern part of the Murge plateau.
Also known as the Trulli Valley, it is closed to the south by Monte Fellone and Monte Castello,
straddles the provinces of Bari, Taranto and Brindisi and includes the towns of Alberobello, Noci, Cisternino, Villa Castelli, Ceglie Messapica (Brindisi), Locorotondo (Bari) and Martina Franca (Taranto).
It is characterised by the numerous caves including the famous Castellana caves and the caves of Villa Castelli and Castellaneta.
The flora comprises sections of woodland and Mediterranean shrub interspersed with numerous vines which produce an excellent-quality white wine including Locorotondo DOC and Martina Franca DOC, and age-old olive groves that yield extra-virgin olive oils such as Villa Castelli DOC.
The fauna is characterised by the presence of hares, foxes, hedgehogs, robins, falcons and various nocturnal birds of prey (tawny owls, eagle owls, horned owls and barn owls).
